Nordic spring arrives late but arrives with force. Snowmelt rivers, the forests greening almost overnight, extraordinary light, and a quietness that is the most affordable and least-crowded of all four seasons.
Spring is Scandinavia's overlooked season. It arrives later than in southern Europe — in northern Norway, winter can persist until May — but when it comes, it does so with a speed and intensity that is genuinely striking. The birch forests go from bare grey to luminous green in the space of days. Rivers run fast and loud with snowmelt.
