Seasonal Guide
Ruska — the Nordic autumn colour season — is brief, brilliant, and among the most beautiful natural phenomena in Europe. September and October in Scandinavia are the rewards for knowing when to go.
Ruska is the Finnish and Sámi word for the autumn colour transformation — the weeks in September and early October when the Nordic forests turn from green to a burning spectrum of amber, ochre, crimson, and gold. In Finnish Lapland, ruska typically peaks in mid-September and can be over within two weeks. Further south, it lasts longer but burns less intensely.
